这首歌的名字《榕儿》源于19岁烈士陈祥榕母亲对他的昵称。
2020年6月30日，英雄魂归故里那天，部队问陈祥榕的妈妈有没有什么困难，英雄母亲说：“我没有什么要求，我只想知道榕儿战斗的时候勇不勇敢。”
在那场战斗中，陈祥榕的生命永远地定格在了19岁，当战友们发现他的时候，作为盾牌手的他紧紧地趴在战友身上，保持着护住战友的姿势。
家国清明，遥寄哀思。明天是卫国戍边烈士们牺牲后的第一个清明节，这首民谣风格作品，表达了所有安享平定生活的人们对英雄的无限追思。歌曲以素描手法刻画了陈祥榕烈士的英雄形象，细节感人、哀而不伤。结尾“年轻的人们，别再彷徨”一句，和所有听众一起在追思缅怀中寻找奋进力量。
